Major Edward “Flip” Klein (Ret) fell in love with the Pacific Northwest while stationed at Fort Lewis before his deployment in 2011.
It was during this deployment that the West Point graduate was on a dismounted patrol in Afghanistan and stepped on an IED, which resulted in the loss of both of his legs, his right arm, and significant damage to his remaining hand.
Now, after Klein’s 15 month rehabilitation at Walter Reed, a house fire in 2014 resulting in the loss of most of their belongings, and a wedding in October 2018, Klein and his wife Jessica will be moving into their smart home outside of Seattle in Issaquah, WA.
The custom-built smart home is equipped with technology to suit Klein’s needs and make every day tasks manageable for him such as adjustable counter tops, and automatic closing doors – features which can be accessed with an iPad.
Other features, such as the installation of hardwood and tile throughout the home, generously donated by Ed Selden Carpet One Floor & Home, and wider doorways, will make navigating the home in a wheelchair much easier for Klein.
Please join us in thanking all of the many sponsors who made this possible, and welcome Flip and Jessica to their new home!
